“和动力——首届济南国际双年展”策展团队推介

这个冬天,打卡济南国际双年展,成为最流行最时髦的事。

一场艺术展览,各路媒体争相报道,并持续占据各大平台热搜榜,网红自媒体达人纷纷打卡,艺术爱好者N次刷展,社会各界好评如潮……济南国际双年展的出圈、破壁,带动了济南文化、旅游、时尚、消费,产生了双年展连锁效应。

这样一场出场自带流量的双年展是哪些牛人大咖策划的呢?本期推出双年展的掌舵者——策展人团队。

“和”的概念包括了三层含义,一是人类社会的和谐,是能作为社会成员如何在社会生存、社会交往中共同形成一种“和” 的情境、“和”的力量、“和”的氛围。二“和”是人与自然的和谐。人与自然是古今中外人类共同思考的命题。三“和”是不同文化之间的“和”。因为“和”的精神气度、本质内容都能为文明互鉴、文明对话和交流提供资源。如何使“和”的本意、“和”的内涵能够变成今天艺术创造、创新的动力,这是一个新的学术命题。 


The concept of "harmony" includes three dimensions. First and foremost, the harmony of human society, which  is how to form a "harmony" situation, the power of "harmony" and the atmosphere of "harmony" as social members  in social context. Second, "harmony" is the harmony between human and nature. Human and nature are the common  thinking propositions of human beings at all times worldwide. The third dimension is the harmony between difffferent  cultures. Since the spirit and essence of "harmony" can provide resources for mutual learning, dialogue and exchanges  among civilizations, how to encourage the original meaning and connotation of "harmony" become a driving force of  today's artistic creation and innovation is a new academic proposition.

山东是儒家思想发祥地,“和”是其核心理念。它不单影响着千百年来中国人的思想和行为,其内涵也具有普世意义,因此我们选择了以“和”为主题,并命名为“和动力”。意为在“和”的理念指引下,用当代艺术的方式,激发推动世界和谐发展的新力量。双年展不仅仅是一个展览,更重要的是,她昭示我们战胜灾难的决心和勇气以及对美好未来的憧憬。 


Shandong is the birthplace of Confucianism, and the notion of "harmony" is at its core. It has inflfluenced Chinese  people's thinking and behavior for thousands of years. Its connotations embody universal values, so we chose "harmony" as the theme of this biennial and named "Harmo-Power." The idea is to adopt contemporary art as a means to  stimulate a new force for the harmonious development of the world under the guidance of "harmony." The biennial is  not only an exhibition but, more importantly, it reveals our determination and courage to overcome disasters and our  hope for a better future.

对于济南双年展范迪安先生提出了Harmo-Power的主旨。初看之下,你或许会发现这两个词似乎形成了一种对立关系。“和谐”,在人们通常的理解中是一种愉悦的感觉,而“力量”则与能量、体力和权力有关。“和谐”构成了一个既包含对立、又相互统一的重要术语。“力量”亦不被理解为是一种矛盾,而是一种控制的冲动。这一终极的社会理想,可以在艺术领域中找到。


Mr Fan Di'an  gave the leitmotif of "Harmo-power”.you may stumble across both terms that seem to form an opposing pair. Harmony, so popularly, is a kind of feeling of happiness while "power" has to do with: energy, power and strength. “Harmony” is therefore a substantial term that includes opposites as well as they can also unite with one another. The second term “power” is therefore not understood as a contradiction, but as a kind of controlling impulse. This is ultimately a social ideal that can also be found in the sphere of art.

有时,"HARMONY"这个词带着一种悠远而深沉的低语声,它源于时代的记忆,引领我们走向未来的山丘。它永远不能被定义为一个整体,但它确实假定了一种对平衡和智慧的渴望,一种渴望对这个世界(包括最坏的和最好的)有更高的理解的精神状态,结合一种能够处理社会在此时此地可能面对的所有情况的态度。所以,"和谐"的理想,在中国哲学的古老学派中是如此的亲切,不可避免地包括了对这种和谐的自我保护系统,在我看来,"HARMO-POWER "的理念很是对这悠久的精神传统的最新表达,因此,它或许也可以包括让世界恢复平衡的深刻愿望。


Sometimes, it appears to me that the word HARMONY comes with the sound of one long and deep whisper, that originates from the memory of times and leads us to the hills of the future. It can never be defined as a whole but it presumes indeed an aspiration for balance and wisdom, a state of mind that aspires to achieve a higher understanding of this world (with the worst and the best it has to offer) combined with an attitude capable of handling all possible situations that society can confront us with, here and now. So, the ideal of HARMONY, so dear to the old schools of Chinese philosophy, unavoidably includes a system of self-protection of that harmony and it appears to me that the idea of HARMO-POWER could well be the most recent expression of that long-standing spiritual tradition, and thus, it could, perhaps, also include the deep desire to bring the world back to balance.

由于新冠肺炎,原本变化莫测的人类文明世界变得愈发难以预料。此时,济南国际双年展把主题定为“和动力(Harmo-Power)”更显意义非凡。现如今,文明转换的步伐加速进行,无法依靠简单预测的复杂时代已经到来。全新的双年展抛弃对外部世界提出宣言性主张的旧惯例,致力于通过个人与个人,或是个人与社会、与自然之间的和谐,克服全球性危机。这种意志,可以克服旧模式的局限性,并提出能够引领崭新未来的可能性。


As a result of COVID-19, the originally unpredictable world of human civilization has become more and more  unpredictable. At this time, the theme of Jinan International Biennale -“Harmo- Power" is more signifificant. Today, the  pace of civilization transformation is accelerating, and a complex era that cannot rely on simple predictions has  arrived. The new Biennale abandons the old practice of declaring claims to the outside world and aims to overcome  global crises through harmony between individuals, or between individuals and society, and nature. This could overcome the limitations of the old model and put forward the possibility of leading a new future.

英文主题“Harmo-Power”具有多重意味和思想深意,这一合成词既有对“和”(“和睦”)的巧妙音译,又通过这一新造语词的重新定义、重新命名,建构了“和动力”概念的崭新涵义。其一是“传统”(Tradition)与“当代”(Contemporary)的关系。其二是“地域”(Local)与“全球”(Global)的关系。其三是主题性(Thematic)与多元性(Diversity)的关系。


We have also noted that the English translation of the theme "Harmo-Power" implies multiple meanings and deep thoughts. The phonetic semblance of this term redefines and renames of this neologism, which contributes new meaning to the concept of "harmo-power". First of all, the relationship between tradition and contemporary. Secondly, the relationship between "local" and "global." Thirdly, on the relationship between “thematic” and “diversity.”

首届济南国际双年展提出“和动力”的概念,即是基于近一百多年向西方学习的过程之后,重新回归自我,从中国古老的传统文化中获取智慧,找到解决世界问题的途径。范迪安先生为首届济南国际双年展提出“和”的主张,就是秉承了这样一个思路,即充分尊重世界文化和艺术的多样性与差异性,并以多元文化为前提寻找和合共生的价值认同。当然,如何将理论问题进行视觉转换,进而影响到艺术家的创作及其思维状态,还需要一个继续深化的过程。所以,范迪安先生又在“和”之后加了“动力”二字,以此构成一个新的词组,就是为了把和的哲学思想转换为一种文化能量,一种艺术创造的动力。 


The first Jinan International Biennale proposed the concept of "Harmo-Power," which is based on the process of learning from the West after more than a century, to return to the self, to gain wisdom from traditional Chinese culture, and to search for a way of resolving world problems. Mr. Fan Di’an notion of "harmony" for the first Jinan International Biennale is based on this idea and thought process, which fully respects the diversity and differences of world culture and art, and to search for harmonious and symbiotic value consensus on the premise of multiculturalism. Of course, the process of how to visually transform the theoretical issues and influence the artist's practice still requires further studies. Therefore, Mr. Fan Di’an adds the term "power" after "harmony" into a neologism that would transform the philosophy of harmony into a kind of cultural energy, a type of driving force for artistic creation.

“和动力”是一个充满触及性的展览,它将见证这个时代的处境与状况。“和”是理想,动力就指向“触及性”,“和动力”就是在提示理想的触及性,就是理想如何触及现实,或者理想如何落地,如何具体化。它更是一个在艺术上如何相互触及的方法的探讨和研究,是在用触及性要求一种权力,要求哪怕是在“隔绝”的条件下仍保持文化的相互温暖的力量。


The exhibition "Harmo-Power" is an exhibition of access, which will bear witness to this time's circumstances and conditions. “Harmony" is ideal; the impetus refers to "access","harmo-power" suggests the accessibility of ideals. It explores the way in which ideals become accessible reality, or the way in which to inseminate and materialize them. It is a discussion and research topic on mutual access among artistic practices.It is a tactile claim to power that would maintain culture's conviviality even in the face of "isolation."

“和”为(wéi)青年:青年是祖国的未来,本届双年展设立青年策展人项目,为的是鼓励青年策展人探索追问艺术的本源,将传承和创新相互融合,充分展现当代青年艺术家在后疫情时代的现实思考和艺术表达。

“和”为(wèi)青年:儒家的"内圣外王"之道,旨在于内足以资修养外足以经世。希望通过本届济南市国际双年展青年策展人项目,发现并培养一批既有学术脉络和厚度,又具有前瞻性和开放性的青年策展人后备力量。


"Harmony" as a youth: The youth is a nation's future. The Biennale's establishment of the Young Curators Program aims to encourage young curators to explore and question the origin of art, integrate heritage and innovation, and fully demonstrate the truthful thinking and artistic expressions of contemporary young artists post-pandemic era.

"Harmony" for the youth: the Confucian principle of "inner sage and outer king," which aims to cultivate the inner self and endure the outer world. From the Young Curators Program of the Jinan International Biennale, a group of young curators with academic context and depth and forward-looking and open-mindedness will be discovered and cultivated.

身处疫情中,如何理解生命的存在,如何重新理解旅行和偶遇,如何理解万事万物和人的共存。是现实的,也是观念的。是精神指向的具体尝试,一切也都在触发的变化中,构成未完成的,个人化的,复合的交互——纠缠。

想想什么是当代?想想什么是工具化?想想未来的可能?

“和动力”可以被理解为交融状态下,细微到每个个体艺术家所能承载和贡献的能量交叠,也可以被理解为一种宏观态势的熵增熵减,一个或多个算法模型下,一种可能性的未来。


Amid a pandemic, how should we understand the existence of life, to reconceive the notions of travel and chance encounters, and to understand the coexistence of everything and everyone? These are real and conceptual probes, as well as spiritually guided attempts, and it is abstract. It's the concrete attempts with spiritual direction, and everything triggers a change that engenders the unfinished, personal, compounded interactions and entanglements.

Let’s think about what is contemporary? What is instrumentalization? And the possibilities of the future?

"Harmo-Power" can be conceived as the overlapping of energy in a state of convergence, down to the smallest detail that each artist can carry forward and contribute, or as a macro-posture of increasing entropy and decreasing entropy, the future of a possibility under one or more algorithmic models.
